About the event
Tom Jules SAMIE Dance artist, performer, choreographer, and teacher.In the last three years, Jules has been dancing for Nora Chipaumire’s company and the ongoing “NEHANDA” project around the world. He has taken part in Pina Bausch's project “The Rite of the Spring” organized by ECOLE DES SABLES AND SADLER'S WELLS and the “AmFree-Ka” residency project on the decolonization of the body organized by Vanessa Neva. During the lockdown, he performed in the “Movem! For Acceleration” by DAYNA MARTINEZ & VINCENT VELBURG.Jules started dancing in his local Ballet in Togo. Learning traditional Togolese dance and Contemporary African dance from a young age. From 2006-2012 he joined traditional Togolese dance company, Dagbénéva Togo and performed in national festivals. In November 2013, he moved to Senegal to research, take part in various trainings, and meet dancers and choreographers in Dakar and at Ecole Des Sables. His aim was to discuss traditional dance and strengthen his dance skills. He began his training at the Alvin Ailey-Senegal Academy where he trained in techniques such as modern, classical and contemporary Jazz for 3 years. In Senegal he worked with the BAKALAMA and SUNU PERCU DANCE troupes. In 2016, he develops his first solo called “Tribute” which he presented in several festivals in Africa such as the Kaay Fecc festival in Dakar Senegal, and FIDO in Ouagadougou Burkina Faso.
